TIG i Portugal

TakingITGlobal and the Global Youth Action Network are very proud to present the result of work that begun more than a year ago: the Portuguese Version of TakingITGlobal's online community! In addition to having Spanish, Arabic, French and Russian platforms available, it will now be possible to choose "Português" when you're navigating through the website to have access to all the content in Portuguese. This accomplishment was only made possible with the hard work of the translation group and some other very special people that helped us out along the way. The final phase of this task was coordinated by Barbara Azevedo, our Portuguese Engagement Coordinator working from GYAN's Regional Office in Brazil.

Let us not forget that TIG's content is always renewing itself, so there still is a lot of work to be done! If you want to join this team of successful translators, click here. By the way, here's a list of people we would like to appreciate publicly for their contributions: Talita Montiel, Felipe Butelli, Felipe Portela, Mayra Peixoto, Julia Furlan, Gustavo Nicoletta, Luana Cavalcanti, Bruna, Ana Boa-Ventura, Pedro Piza, Daniel Taminato, Alberto Cauaia, Larissa Cavalcante and last, but not least, Diogo Andre and Melina Laboucan-Massimo. "Bom trabalho pessoal!"

The World Summit Youth Award

The World Summit Youth Award (WSYA) aims to empower youth by creating digital opportunity. It is an international competition for youth-led projects that encourage the active participation of young people in the emerging Information Society. It is the first global "youth for youth" initiative for selecting and promoting best practice in e-content and technological creativity. WSYA is not only a showcase to the world for young designers, technologists and e-content creators, it also contributes on a global scale to reducing poverty, protecting the environment, sharing knowledge and empowering marginalized youth groups. This awards process is held within the framework of the UN World Summit on the Information Society.

So do you have a cool emerging project on the web? Are you a young designer, web developer, music producer or artist looking for international exposure? Are you passionate about using technology for social change? Enter now and showcase your project to the world! More information and an online application form is available: click here!

Contribute to Research on Youth-led Action

TakingITGlobal is conducting research on 'Youth Led Action in an International Context' in attempt to better understand the characteristics of youth leadership in this era and how it can be made more effective. The research will contribute to the development of a new version of TakingITGlobal's Guide to Action. For the purposes of this study, a young leader is defined as someone between the ages of 16 - 26, who has initiated an effort to affect change in their community (which can be defined as local, national and/or global), either as part of an institution or outside of formal institutions.

If you meet these criteria, you are invited to participate in an online survey and an effort to contribute to a culture of youth-led action and engagement globally. Klicka här!

Celebrating Student Voices

What is your ideal learning environment? Has technology been used effectively in your schools? What are your dreams and concerns for the future of education?

For five weeks this spring, a group of TIG members examined these issues, shared their experiences, and came to some interesting conclusions as part of the Student Voices project, supported by the International Society for Technology in Education. The final report, which was presented by TIG members and staff at the National Educational Computing Conference in Philadelphia in June, is available in English, French, Spanish, Russian and Arabic. Klicka här.

If you have any questions or are interested in using the report in your work, email: education@takingitglobal.org
